In life, one is supposed to enjoy the journey. This is something that we often hear, and that many of us learned with time and through experience. However, when it comes to tourism, one focuses mostly on the destination. With traveling becoming so affordable, and the information being so widely spread, with millions of people being eager to travel the world, it becomes necessary to address the elephant in the room: is traveling at such a high rate sustainable in the long-run?

The answer is of course not all in black and white. However, by developing simple rules that are respected and followed by most of the tourists, we can make a big step in the right direction. Merely looking at something almost never causes change. The way we act always changes the way we feel. Bringing a positive change to an ecosystem by transforming some of the tourist’s behavior patterns, does not only change the tourist destinations for the better but also changes the tourists and society at a bigger scale.

So, what changes should we implement in order the make travel more sustainable? Here are 5 aspects that we could focus on:

  1. Choose your destination carefully.
When deciding upon your next destination make sure to not go for the most crowded and popular ones. This does not only decrease the stress by avoiding jammed places during your holiday, but it will also protect those crowded destinations and attractions. There are many other stories worth hearing and places worth seeing beyond what is popular on social media platforms or the internet in general.
  2. Eat, sleep and shop like a local.
This helps us actively learn more from traveling and it actually makes us go through moments that bring us closer to the people and places we visit. Buying at a local shop, sleeping in a remote but authentic accommodation and eating in the places where locals eat will guarantee you a great time and a true experience of the culture and local traditions.
  3. Avoid touristy souvenirs
Souvenirs are not only often overpriced but are most likely something that we do not actually need and that we will eventually not use. If you want a precious memory from your trip, try to combine the beautiful with the practical. You can go for local spices, some regional snacks or things of lasting value.
  4. Leave a place better than you found it
A tourist can make a valuable difference even by small actions. Supporting the local artisan’s shops, buying local products, or socializing with locals, can bring not only joy but also greatly improve the destination’s economy. The ethical choices you make during your visit can bring a big impact on the touristic ecosystem in the long run.
  5. Be open and adaptable to new technologies, BTour Chain
The 21st century is the time of the fast-emerging technologies that come to make our life easier. The current technology’s contribution to our life is incredible. By being used wisely, it makes us more responsible as well as it makes out lifestyle more sustainable. BTour Chain, a global tourism blockchain project is a good example of this new wise use of technology that is committed to making sustainable traveling everyone’s reality.

What BTour Chain does
BTour Chain distributes Smart Tour Devices — Blockchain Kiosk, Cryptocurrency ATM, CryptocurrencyPoS to tour cities all over the world. Using these devices, information on tourists and their patterns are converted into big data and analyzed. Touristic destinations can refer to the data for their tourism policies; various tourism service providers, the so-called Tour Element Suppliers(TES), can provide personalized marketing by using the same big data. In this way tourists’ satisfaction will increase, boosting revisit rates and consumption, and strengthening the competitiveness of the tourism industry.

However, BTour Chain does not pursue business purposes only. BTour Chain fulfills global good by providing a trust system that benefits not only the supplier but also the users — BTour Chain membership users will receive a mileage-type reward called ‘BTour Mileage’ (BTM) for using BTour Chain smart payments and providing reviews at travel destinations. The reward can be easily donated to help restore cultural assets or help communities around the world which suffered from natural disasters. In this way, travelers can donate through BTour Chain system to the desired sector or institution and personally contribute in this way to the tourism sustainability.

Just imagine, your travel can make the world a better place! Why not to go on a voyage with BTour Chain?
